History
The Acu Rate story dates back to the 1990’s, when its Director, Technology Development, Zoran Milijasevic, devised a solution to the common issues of infusion: inaccurate, unreliable, and potentially unsafe flow rates. Defying convention, and building on his lengthy experience of successful medical device innovation and problem-solving, Zoran devised a means of controlling flow rates in medical infusion by applying a basic principle of fluid dynamics. He then solved the more difficult problem: designing and manufacturing a flow controller that is so simple (elegantly simple), and so inexpensive, that it is virtually universally affordable.
Acu Rate has spent the past 6 years listening to the needs of health professionals around the globe, and designing essential products, and customising designs, to make infusion safe and accurate.
Acu Rate’s technology platform is represented by its 2 lead products: a single, fixed flow rate device (especially suitable for home care and where cost as well as safety are paramount), and an adjustable “multi-flow” device for use by health professionals when accurate but different flow rates are required over a period of minutes or hours..
Acu Rate’s Technology Breakthrough
Acu Rate’s core technology is a patented means of flow control. Acu Rate’s breakthrough is the translation and application, in a simple, low-cost, flow controller, of known physical principles. Acu Rate has devised a flow controller that performs the functions of a highly accurate valve – without a valve or any moving parts. Acu Rate achieves flow control without a valve or other moving parts using a proven means of channelling the fluid through its device. With sophisticated know-how, Acu Rate has streamlined the design and manufacture to an elegant simplicity – enabling low-cost production and very competitive end user pricing.
To date the technology has been incorporated into:
- single-flow controller
- multi-flow controller
In the pipeline are 2 additional devices:
- vein access device
- one-way valve
Acu Rate can also customise its technology to improve the accuracy and safety of existing products. Please see our website.
